Godwin Heights — At the Board of Education’s Monday night special meeting, Superintendent Bill Fetterhoff announced his retirement at the end of July.
Fetterhoff is one of the longest-serving superintendents in Kent County. He has been with Godwin Heights for 20 years, the last 14 as the district’s superintendent.
“I am so fortunate to have had an incredibly rewarding and wonderful career at Godwin Heights,” Fetterhoff said in a statement to the district. “This is an outstanding school district. How lucky am I to have experienced it as an administrator, an assistant superintendent, and for the last 14 years, your superintendent of schools.
“Without a doubt, the last decade plus has been the most rewarding and fulfilling period of my career. It has been a complete privilege and pleasure to work with the caring and talented educators in our district whose singular focus has been our students.”
The Board of Education will meet in April to discuss next steps in the search for the next superintendent, which will include meeting with a consultant from Kent ISD, said Vice President Lee Ann Plastschorre. The goal is to have a new superintendent by July 1.
She said the board has appreciated Fetterhoff’s dedication to Godwin Heights and he will be missed.
“Bill has been an outstanding superintendent for our district,” Platschorre said. “He has always put the learning component ahead for our students, asking how this is going to help make them better learners.”
