We named our youngest Disney. Our other 6 kids have unusual ones, too.

  • Influencers Aubree and Josh Jones caused a stir when they announced the name of their seventh child.
  • They called her Disney after the beloved movie franchise.
  • Some people on the internet criticized the choice, but the couple didn’t care one bit.

This story is based on a conversation with Aubree Jones, 37, a content creator and influencer from Utah County. It has been edited for length and clarity.

My husband, Josh, 35, and I are always looking for fun ideas for videos to share with our social media followers, and the reel we posted after the birth of our seventh child this month was no exception.

Our six older kids dressed as beloved Disney characters for a very special name reveal on Instagram: our beautiful newborn is called Disney Mae Jones.

The entire family is heavily invested in the franchise. Josh was raised in Florida, and I grew up in California, so we went to Disneyland and Disney World as children.

Meanwhile, our brood, who range in age from 1 to 13, has lost count of the number of movies they’ve seen on Disney+.

We all felt that Disney, who was born on October 4, 2025, was the perfect name for the latest addition to our household. However, some commentators on the internet weren’t so keen.

The name Disney evokes magic and joy

They said, “It should be illegal,” or we would have infringed on a trademark. Others said she’d be bullied in school. The most ridiculous comment was that the doctors and nurses at the hospital should have a veto on so-called “weird” names.

But we really don’t care what they think. Nor do our kids. Like us, they find it strange that anyone could be negative about a brand new baby they have never met.

Disney evokes so much magic and joy. Walt Disney was an icon who brought happiness to millions of people. I’m sure he’d be happy to know that a child was named in his honor.

Josh and I have always loved unconventional names. It goes back to Josh’s elementary school days. His last name is Jones, which is incredibly common. There was another Josh Jones in the grade above him, and the teachers kept getting them mixed up.

He was once called to the office because his “mother” had arrived to take him to the doctors. But it was the other boy’s mom. Another time, he was sent to see the principal because he’d supposedly gotten into a fight. It turned out to be the older Josh Jones who was involved.

We named our first daughter, Trendy

I have always wanted to name my kids something different. I don’t want them to be confused with anybody else. When I was single, I misheard a parent address their child as Trendy. Her name was actually Trinity, but something about Trendy stuck with me.

Before Josh and I married in August 2011, I told him that I wanted to name our first daughter Trendy. So we did when she arrived a year later. It didn’t stop there. Besides Trendy and Disney, we now have four daughters named Zaylee, 10, Sunny, 9, Truly, 7, and Journey, 3.

Our only son, Rocky, named for the boxer from the famous movie series, was born in December 2023.

None of our children has been bullied about their name. It’s quite the opposite. They’re homeschooled, but they participate in a lot of activities outside the house. They get a lot of compliments from other kids and their parents, and love the fact that they stand out.

Some people make rude comments

We came up with Disney after teasing around a lot of D names, like Daisy and Davy, but we wanted something really different. We both like to choose last names and thought about Hinkley or Swayze. Still, Disney won out.

Unfortunately, there are always going to be people who make mean comments when you put yourself out there on the internet. But for each one that was nasty, there were 10 that were positive.

We even heard from a woman who was proud to be called Disney, too.
