I’m an interior designer. Here are 8 items from West Elm I’d put in my own home right now.

On a recent trip to West Elm, I found some items that I think are worth buying.

  • I’m an interior designer who loves shopping at West Elm for myself and my clients.
  • On a recent trip to the store, the brand’s variety of lighting options caught my eye.
  • I also found a great dinnerware set, a woven basket, a nice chair, and some vases.

As an interior designer, fall is truly my favorite season to redecorate my home. For me, the transition to shorter days and cooler weather means it’s time to incorporate rich, earthy tones, layer in more cozy lighting, and stock up on hosting essentials.

West Elm is one of my favorite stores to shop at for new seasonal finds, both for myself and my clients. So, I took a trip there to see if anything caught my eye.

Here are eight pieces from the store I’d add to my home this season.

The Cersei table lamp caught my eye as a great way to add warmth to a space.

I think the Cersei ceramic table lamp is perfect for adding warmth and ambiance to a room. I love the earthy ceramic base and natural fabric shade, which add a cozy, organic touch.

I’d pair this with a dimmable bulb so I could easily adjust the mood of my lighting throughout the day.

The Kanto stoneware collection would be perfect for fall hosting.

I love having a beautiful dinnerware set on hand for fall gatherings, as well as for my morning coffee.

While browsing the store, the Kanto dinnerware collection caught my eye. Each piece has an earthy depth, with unique variations in the finish.

It comes in a few different color options, but personally, I love the beige version that has hints of warm sand and deeper brown tones throughout.

Even if I’m not hosting, this stoneware is beautiful enough to want to display on shelves.

I love the store’s selection of textured woven baskets.

I’m a homebody during the fall months, so having a good basket to stash extra pillows and throw blankets in is a must.

The brand offers a diverse range of woven baskets that add a natural, textural element to the room while also serving a functional purpose.

Although I don’t think there’s ever such a thing as having too many blankets or pillows this time of year, practical storage is needed to keep clutter at bay.

Rich-toned pillows are perfect for layering.

I tend to gravitate toward a neutral color palette, so to ensure my room doesn’t feel too boring, I like to layer in oversize throw pillows in rich, deep tones. Think earthy browns, olive greens, and burgundy — colors you would see in nature.

When walking through the store, I stopped to admire the chocolate brown color (and texture) of West Elm’s cozy boucle pillow cover, which would be perfect for creating a layered fall look.

I adore the silhouette of the Benson chair.
A gray chair with thick wooden arms and legs.

The ash wood frame of the Benson chair from West Elm feels modern and sculptural, but still relaxed and inviting.

This silhouette looks amazing at all angles and can help make a space feel open despite its larger size.

Like most of West Elm’s seating options, the Benson chair can be made to order in a variety of fabrics. My go-to favorites are the golden, warm tone of the camel distressed velvet and the perfectly muted, earthy, green spruce.

The Rhea lamp adds a soft overhead glow.
Two circular linen ceiling lamps.

Lighting is key to adding warmth and ambiance to a space. In my opinion, the best strategy is to layer in different light sources throughout the room. For example, I like to combine table, floor, and overhead lamps to achieve an overall layered glow.

What I love about the Rhea lamp is that it’s oversized yet delicate, so it feels grand without completely taking over the room. It also has subtle details that really elevate the design, like the fabric-wrapped cord.

I think the base of the Diego Olivero chamber lamp looks like a piece of art.
Two lamps in different sizes with white shades and circular bases.

I’m always leaning into sculptural, organic shapes wherever possible, and the base of the Diego Olivero chamber lamp feels like a unique piece of art.

The two sizes available come in slightly different base shapes and would look great paired together on opposite sides of a room.

The store’s organic form vases are striking.
Two cream-colored vases in different sizes.

I’m always on the hunt for a statement vase or unique vessel, and the organic form vases are exactly that. They’re perfect for styling foraged fall branches, yet striking enough to display empty as well.

I would style three different sizes of these vases together on a dining table, as each one has a unique yet complementary shape. Or, a single vase could be placed on a fireplace mantle or sideboard.
