I tried all the doughnuts I could find at Dunkin’ and ranked them from worst to best

This one surprised me because I’ve had Dunkin’s glazed blueberry doughnut before. But compared to the other doughnuts I tried, this variety was my least favorite.

The blueberry flavor felt far removed from the taste of actual blueberries — like something artificially flavored to mimic the taste of blueberry Hostess mini muffins.

There was also an unpleasant aftertaste I didn’t get from any of the other doughnuts.

Between the vanilla icing, crumbs, and gooey apple filling, Dunkin’s apple-crumb doughnut was too sweet for me.

I also thought the filling was reminiscent of an apple pie from a fast-food restaurant.

I liked the texture of the crumb topping, but the thick layer of icing made this doughnut very sweet.

Dunkin’s vanilla-creme doughnut is covered with powdered sugar and filled with vanilla cream.

Although the filling keeps the doughnut pleasantly moist, the taste and consistency of the filling made it taste more like a powdered Twinkie than something I might want with my coffee at breakfast.

The three frosted, sprinkled options I tried — strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate — are bunched together in my ranking because they’re otherwise identical: soft, puffy doughnuts with colored sprinkles on the frosting.

The strawberry-frosted version was my family’s least favorite of the group. Even my 4-year-old, who typically loves everything that’s pink and sprinkled, preferred the other frostings.

Although billed as a vanilla-frosted doughnut, I couldn’t make out even a hint of vanilla flavor.

However, this doesn’t mean it’s bad — it’s still a doughnut — but it’s a bit boring and very sweet. My kids were also unimpressed with the sparseness of the sprinkles.

My favorite of the frosted trio, Dunkin’s chocolate-frosted doughnut with sprinkles, has actual cocoa in the frosting, giving it a far more distinctive flavor than the other two variations.

Since Dunkin’s doughnuts are pretty sweet, I usually found the frosting to be unnecessary. However, the chocolate-frosted doughnuts were an exception — and I don’t especially love chocolate.

Dunkin’s s’mores doughnut is a limited-edition flavor topped with chocolate frosting and graham-cracker crumbs.

It’s filled with a toasted-marshmallow-flavored filling that I thought looked and tasted exactly like the vanilla cream.

However, the rich-chocolate frosting made this one better than the vanilla-crème doughnut. The graham-cracker crumbs, on the other hand, didn’t add nearly as much crunch as I’d hoped, nor did they add much flavor.

If you’ve ever worked in a large office setting where people leave a box of doughnuts in the communal kitchen, you know Dunkin’s coconut flavor is almost always the last one to go. But when I actually tried it, I found it was better than I expected it to be.

The coconut shreds on the outside added a very mild flavor and an interesting texture. If I ever have an office job again, I won’t sweat so much about getting to the doughnuts before there’s only one left.

Oddly, Dunkin’ doesn’t specify on the menu what type of jelly it uses to fill the jelly doughnuts. However, in 2019, a spokesperson told Today.com that it’s an “apple and raspberry-flavored filling.”

The jelly was indistinctly fruity and gooey in flavor, but it had a nice, mild tanginess that complemented the sweetness of the doughnut.

It was the only doughnut I tried that was topped with granulated sugar instead of powdered sugar, which I liked because of the extra crunch.

Dunkin’s Bavarian kreme doughnut looks almost identical to the vanilla-creme one, but my family and I all preferred the filling in this variety.

The Bavarian-cream filling had a more natural, off-white color, as well as a more neutral flavor. The filling also added moisture to the doughnut without making it overpoweringly sweet.

The double-chocolate doughnut was one of only two I tried that had Dunkin’s chocolate-cake doughnut base.

However, I didn’t think the chocolate frosting added any real diversity to the flavor and only served to make the doughnut sweeter and a bit messier.

The Boston kreme doughnut is topped with a thick coating of chocolate icing and filled with Dunkin’s Bavarian cream.

It’s a classic combination for a reason — the warm, chocolate flavor of the icing pairs perfectly with the mild, velvety filling.

My 6-year-old was surprised that he liked the Boston kreme flavor more than the double chocolate, as he usually prefers the most chocolatey dessert available.

The top spots on this list all belong to simple, classic doughnuts. In three of the four cases — the powdered doughnut included — I was surprised by how much I enjoyed them.

The cake-style powdered doughnut was soft and tasted fresh, and the powdered sugar gave it a nostalgic appeal.

I figured the humdrum old-fashioned doughnut would land near the bottom of my ranking.

However, it was one of the first doughnuts I tried, and by far the biggest surprise — if it weren’t for this taste test, I would’ve never chosen one myself. However, I really enjoyed it.

I could’ve gone for more of the outer crunchiness of classic, deep-fried cake doughnuts. Still, this one felt well-suited for eating alongside (and occasionally dipping in) a hot cup of coffee.

I know what you’re probably thinking — boring. But this big, soft, sweet doughnut was a stealth favorite.

The sweet, flaky outer glaze added sweetness and flavor without overwhelming the doughnut itself (which is something that was lost in the frosted options).

I’ll admit, the winning flavor was no surprise. From 40-plus years of doughnut-eating experience, I knew that the glazed chocolate variety is among Dunkin’s best.

It was the final doughnut I tried, and after trying 15 flavors, I really wasn’t in the mood for another. However, I ate the whole thing.

I’m not normally a chocolate lover, but the chocolate-cake doughnut had only a mild cocoa flavor, a hearty cakiness, and just enough glaze to sweeten the whole thing up without making it taste too sugary.
