  • Elon Musk’s xAI is hiring a video games tutor to train Grok.
  • The job offers between $45 and $100 per hour and requires experience with game design.
  • There’s a remote option for the job, though Musk is an outspoken critic of work-from-home policies.

You can finally tell your parents that the hours spent playing Mario Kart after school were productive.

Elon Musk’s xAI is hiring a full-time “Video Games Tutor” who will get paid between $45 and $100 per hour, according to the job posting. The AI tutor will train Grok, the company’s AI chatbot, “to excel in video game concepts, mechanics, and generation.” They will work with technical staff and will be responsible for labeling, annotating, and giving input on projects that include “game mechanics, narratives, and design elements.”

The job isn’t for just any gamer, as the requirements include “demonstrated high proficiency in Game Design, Computer Science, Interactive Media, or a related field”; experience with game design, especially on indie games, and a project portfolio; and “proficiency in analyzing gaming content, with strong skills in gameplay critique and iterative improvement.”

But a more general dedication to the gaming world is a plus, since having “dedicated a lot of time to playing video games” is among the preferred qualifications. Musk is himself a regular gamer and has livestreamed some recent sessions from his private jet.

The position is based in Palo Alto, California, and requires anyone in the area to work from the office five days a week. There is, however, a remote option for those with “strong self-motivation.” Musk is an outspoken critic of work-from-home policies.

If gaming isn’t your thing, xAI was hiring for more than 230 other roles as of Thursday afternoon, including a fiber technician in Tennessee, a lead Grok engineer in California, a remote AI Japanese tutor, and a barista in Palo Alto.
