Stephen Colbert reacts to the TikTok deal set to be consummated

Donald Trump’s TikTok deal is almost done, with the U.S. sale of the Chinese-owned platform being finalised this week. There’s a few words we could use to describe the negotiated agreement, but U.S. Treasury secretary Scott Bessent chose one The Late Show host Stephen Colbert can’t unhear.

“We reached a final deal on TikTok,” Bessent said on CBS’ Face the Nation on Sunday, pointing to an upcoming meeting between Trump and Chinese president Xi Jinping. “We reached one in Madrid, and I believe that as of today, all the details are ironed out, and that will be for the two leaders to consummate that transaction on Thursday in Korea.”

Yup. Consummate.

Of course, Colbert reacted accordingly on The Late Show: “The two presidents will begin with oral agreements before really banging out the details until they both scream ‘yes, yes, yes’ and then roll over and look at their phones while feeling an emptiness that’s akin to homesickness.”
